Hello Everyone!

WELCOME BACK!!!

Hope you're all having a gnar-tastic time already, and joining in as much as humanly possible with everyone's favourite St Andrews-based kayaking club! Scientifically proven!*
Mostly I just hope you all survived Sinners...
And boy do we have some things for you to join. Let's see what's coming up!

BIG.

SMEGGING

PUB.

SMEGGING

SESH.

While other clubs fall by the wayside, or hang their heads in shame, Canoe will stand firm as defenders of the Post-Sinners sesh tonight at The Rule! There will be free food, there will be either Union, Lizard or Vic afterwards, and there will be YOU!!
Come along and make it a fantastic night to welcome our shiny new freshers :D :D

BEACH BONFIRE!!! Just be there.

Woman walks into a shop and asks for a double-entendre...

This Saturday night, we say goodbye to Freshers' Week in style!

A traditional Canoe Club beach bonfire, it is absolutely not a night to miss. And with Friday night to recover, you've no excuse not to be there!

Stubbies, sea-swims and poi. Oh my! Every bonfire is a fantastic night, so make sure you come along.

...so the shopkeeper takes her in the back and gives her one.

SPORTS FAYRE!

Come along to our stall on Saturday, 10:00-16:00, and help out if you are a member, or sign up if you are not!!

Hello Everyone!

Hope exams are going well for you all - really not long now until the end of the semester now; this will likely be my second-last email until we return in September! :(
We've still got some excellent stuff lined up for these last two weeks however, so kill that revision dead, nail those exams, and have a big, fat, Canoe Club party to celebrate at the end of it. Woo!

HUGO'S SOAKING!!

You bet he is...

4pm on the 16th at the Sports Hall. GET KEEN!

FB event HERE!

From Sam the Man:

SAM'S ETIVE TRIP - Wednesday 18th May

I'm so excited. Though I'm also sad as Jon Wyles won't be there.
Celebrate the end of exams with a most spectacular trip to the river Etive. For those who don't know, the Etive is kayaking nirvana, full of waterfalls (including the notorious 20ft right angle) and the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. It is guaranteed to make your facebook profile look 200% more badass. Will then hopefully have a play on the Allt a' Chaorainn running rapids called speed, ecstasy, pinball and chasm. If this has got you frothing for some kayaking gnar get in contact with Sam (scl8) and he will get you signed up. It is going to be spectacular and the best trip of the year!!!!!
Had to big my ego up and put one of myself in. #Narcissism #ILoveIt #LookAtThatFace #LookAtThatBody #ThisBoyCan

END OF YEAR BONFIRE (19th) Just be there.

Dancing around the fire naked is also optional mandatory.

If anyone is yet to submit an awards form, go here now: LINK!

SUMMER TRIP!!
So I watched a documentary on how ships are put together last week...*
The summer trip is happening!! 20th-23rd!
We have had some trouble with getting hold of Canoes, so there will be 4 canoes with some kayaks taken along as well.
Anyone who hasn't got their deposit in MUST do so this week!
*It turned out to be riveting.

And here's Paddy to tell you about a tasty treat next semester - LEADERS' TRIP:

Its a long time away, unfortunately not in a galaxy far far away

I WANT TO KNOW IF YOU ARE COMING!!

What is leaders you may ask yourself? Well leaders trip is exactly what it sounds like. Its the weekend before freshers trip, all weekend bants filled with boating, beer and beaters trip. Its an opportunity for people to improve their leading skillage as well as run some rare rivers.
Why are these rivers rare paddy?
Well its because traditionally leaders trip involves going to the far north and paddling some cool rivers up there. As always it will be water and people dependent where we head.
Here's a video of some alumni (plus Dre and Rory as second years), on leaders trip.
I was surprised there was no dinosaurs, this video is so old

You do need a certain standard to gain the most benefit from leaders trip. Ideally you should feel happy about gr3 water, if you can roll then brill but even if you can attempt it that's dope. Shoot me a question on Fb or by email if you have questions.

EMAIL Patrick at ps82 if you are interested, at the moment im just gauging interest he gets email in the states you know

OTHER NEWS:  <--- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bx4g-8PY9Q

End of year questionnaire:

Not nearly as fun as the awards, I know - but really helpful in getting ready for next year. Fill it out when you have a moment!
Finally your chance to complain about how awful the weekly email is! Pass it up and you may be stuck with my jokes forever...

Note from the Treasurer:

It's almost summer so everyone will be going home so please don't forget to pay off your debt before you go. I will be sending out emails after exams with how much everyone owes.
(If that fails we will be sending the boys round to make you an offer you can't refuse. Fair warning.)
Finally, would you like a car???

A message from 2008 alumnus Jamie Adam:
"I'm selling my Focus estate (details here https://www.gumtree.com/p/ford/2009-ford-focus-tdci-estate/1168223491) and wondered if any club members are interested? It makes a great paddle wagon, and I'd be willing to throw in my roofbars and do a bit of a discount if someone from the club was keen? I'm based just outside of Perth so not too far away and could meet someone off the bus or train in Perth or possibly Dundee if they were interested. Many thanks!"

Hello Everyone!

Getting very close to the end of the semester now and my last few emails for several months!  This one comes as more of an end-of-week summary because I found myself suddenly ill in the middle of this week, so I certainly hope your revision weeks are going better than mine! WHOSE?? :(

SOAKINGS!!

Two fine captains of old, Sarah and Hugo, are getting ready for us all to get them very, very wet.  It's the Canoe Club way, after all!

Would be great to see as much club representation there as possible: Sarah's is at 3.20pm on Tuesday 10th outside the entrance to the Scottish Oceans Institute (East Sands, 2 mins from the boatshed), and Hugo's is at 4pm on the 16th at the Sports Hall. GET KEEN!

Preseason 2016 28th Aug - 4th Sept
A message from Andre 'The Giant' Phillips:
Thank you for the amazing response and keenness from you all!

And even further in the future, a message from Paddy about LEADERS' TRIP:

OTHER NEWS:  <--- WOOF WOOF!

Canoe club photos are still ready for collection!

Ones to be collected and we still have spares!

Note from the Treasurer: the person everyone loves to hate but don't worry I love all of you equally (though booze more equally than others)
Sorry to have to do this but anyone who owes over £60 will not be able to come on anymore trips until their debt is bellow this amount because the club is owed too much money. If this causes any issues please contact me. I will be sending out emails in the next few days to everyone that this applies to. If you have put your deposit down for a trip then you should still be able to go on it so long as you are making visible steps to reduce the amount you owe and you will have to pay upfront for the trip.I'm sorry I've had to do this but no club money means no trips for anyone :'(

Also same old same old with receipts, if you have receipts lying around that you want to claim then get them into me before you go away for the summer.
TBH I really want to get this years pricing finished and I will go mega crazy (like you haven't seen anything this crazy before, they'll probably lock me away and throw away the key for what I'll do) if any one of you come up to me in september with a receipt for £2.37 from February 10th. You have been warned :p

Also I am sorting out the money for club photos so the money for them will be added to your club debt so you don't have to pay Chloe upfront.

Hello Everyone!

Apologies again for the late email; the email service on my computer has been down for 2 days now, so I have had to borrow one today in order to reach you all!
I'm sure everyone was holding their breath...

SOCIALS VARIOUS:

A message from those Social peeps:
This week's pub session will be as it usually is: FOOD AND ALCOHOL AT THE RULE AT 8:30 TONIGHT :D
Come and shake off revision sadness!
A great way to get some really solid procrastination in, if you feel as if you haven't been procrastnating as hard as you should have been today!

However, the bigger, better social is the May Dip Shenanigans which will start at Eleanor's on Saturday at 8 with a BBQ and continue throughout the night :D
If you aren't already invited on Fb give Alice or Chloe a quick message and they will add you to the event!
Because seriously, who better than to run naked into the sea with at 4am than Canoe?  'round these parts we call that Tuesday...

SUMMER TRIP!!???

The summer trip will be on the Tay on the 20th - 23rd of May, and if you're coming along be sure to get your £10 deposit in as soon as possible!

Hello Everyone!

My sincere apology for the very late email; the monstrous world of boring-but-important caught up with your secretary yesterday and prevented him from seeing to far more entertaining tasks, such as the liberal distribution of invisible banter and club news that is the weekly email.  So without further ado, here it is!
Hope everyone is feeling a little better after what sounds like a monumental Sinners last night; I expect copious tales of glory and heroism in the pub tonight as I attempt to thoroughly scrub away the memory of today's Latin and Greek tests with alcohol...

SUMMER TRIP!! and the livin' is easyy...

The summer trip will be on the Tay on the 20th - 23rd of May, so save the date!

Hello Everyone!

AGM tonight! If you fancy running for a committee position go for it! Also on the way we have kayaking, balling and kayaking in the Alps!

AGM: 9 March, 19:15, School 1
This is it!! The Big One. Come along and vote on the future of the club - stand for one of our prestigious 'BNIC' committee positions, or grill the candidates with your probing questions...

School 1 will host us for the meeting immediately afterwards. We will be first voting on our BIG NAME CHANGE!! Shall we stay St Andrews University Canoe Club (StAUCC) or change to
St Andrews University Canoe and Kayak (StAUCK). Only one way to find out...

Then we get down to it - each candidate is asked for a one minute speech (apart from Captain and Competitions, which is two minutes) to tell us why they'd be great for the job. After a few questions from the audience, we'll vote our favourite in.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT: Everyone should consider a committee position if it's something they are interested in - it's a lot of fun, you're given lots of room to make the role your own - and, of course, you get to be a pretty massive deal in the St A boating scene..

FIRST AID COURSE! 23-24th March
Be prepared for anything, sign up to our 2 day REC Emergency first aid course running Wed 23 - Thurs 24th March, in the second week of the Easter Break. Hosted by the legendary George Fell this course fills you in on all the basics as well as outdoor and paddle sport specific injuries and situations you may run in to (and it's always good fun). Essential for some qualifications (Level 1, 4* Assessment etc), plus it's a  pretty damn useful skill to have under your belt for everyday life! To sign up, or any questions, email Stratts (ejs21). Places limited so first come first served!

BIG POOL SESSION! Friday 1st April 8:00 - 9.15pm this ain't no April Fool joke! but there may be some shenanigans ...
We have booked a proper sized pool at Cupar to get some more fun coaching and activities!

Hello Everyone!

This is one of my last emails, awww, as we have our AGM on the way so if you fancy running for a committee position then get thinking about a speech! As standard we have lots on the go, I hear BUCS polo is great chat.

OGM: TONIGHT 8pm

Ordinary general meeting!

The current committee will tell you about their roles and what they've been up to over the year. It's a great opportunity to find out more about the different positions you can run for before our AGM next week! There will be lots of opportunity for you to ask the current committee questions about their positions too :)

Come whether you are thinking for a running for a position or not - chat will be great and we will finish with an incredible flat crawl (hopefully with lots of challenges!)

(If you've avoided this chat, well done - more info to follow at the OGM).

Pool Sessions for Everyone!
Missed getting your flatmate to our pool sessions this week? Or enjoyed it so much you want to join us again?
Pool sessions are open to everybody, absolute beginners very welcome! 8.15pm Monday and Tuesday, check facebook for a group walking from market street.

This is a little reminder for everyone to get raiding through that underwear and get your friends/flat mates/ family involved too. Keep your eye on the fb event for more info on when you can donate and to find out more about the charity we are supporting. Thank you for all the donations we have already received!!
