Hello Everyone!

I hope you are not getting too bogged down now the term has started! If not don't worry as Canoe has pleanty of events on the horizon to get excited about!

Sessions Outline

Sea Sessions - Every Wednesday 2 - 5 at the East Sands Boat shed

We will have a paddle in the harbour and on the sea. All abilities welcome. Just bring swimming kit and a towel, we have the rest.

Pool Sessions - Every Monday and Tuesday 8:15 - 9:15, Madras College Kilrymont Road

Kayak sessions in a nice warm pool! All abilities welcome. Just bring swimming kit and a towel, we have the rest.

A walking bus (a group of leaders who walk) leaves the fountain about 7:40 if you don't know where to go. Check the fb page to see if it running. 


Socials - The Rule, South Street, Monday and Thursday
Port night was a bad idea!
Monday session starts after the pool so about 9:45 

Thursday session starts about 8:30

Three Armed Pub Crawl: Thursday 24th of September
Get keen for our first pub crawl of the year! This is the perfect opportunity to meet the club, get to know us better and have a good time.

We'll be starting at The Rule at 19:15 prompt for a quick EGM to discuss thchange of the club's name followed by a gnar filled pub crawl and FREE FOOD!

We'll post the crawl route on the day in case you can't make it to the start.

Beginners Trip: 3rd October
Missed out on Freshers trip? Or just want more kayaking action? Then this trip is definitely for you! We’ll be heading off to a beginner river for the day to practice our skills and techniques not forgetting to have tonnes of fun too! So if you are beginner or new to the club then this trip is perfect and there may even be a cheeky group meal afterwards! To find out more or to sign up contact Freja (fl40) or Khad (kerh)

Club Day In: 28th November,  you won't want to miss this......Basically a big day in doing inside fun stuff! More details to follow... I've heard its so good, a wild Fundre appeared

Saturday 14th November- SSS Slalom in Dundee
Saturday/Sunday 21st-22nd November- BUCS WWR

In other news...

Membership

To come on any trip you must first become a member of the club. This includes the FRESHERS TRIP so if you could get membership this week that would be great and would save any faff!


The membership is £30 with £5 off your first trip.

In addition to join and St Andrews University sports club you need either Fitness+ membership which giver access to all sports facilities or club membership which gives access just to club sessions. Fitness+ is £120 for the year and Club membership is £46

Become (even more) awesome at Kayaking!

This semester's courses are now booked and ready for keen beans to sign up!
All you need to do is email Andre (ap69) and he'll give you more information and book you onto the course. 
All courses are subsidised by us and the AU so you only have to pay 1/3 of the normal cost, an absolute bargain!!!!
10th/11th Oct Beginner Training on grade 2 (with your very own Andre Phillips) (I'm not getting paid so it'll be the cheapest course!)
10th/11th Oct Improver Training (grade 3) with Chris Dickinson, professional coach!
24th/25th Oct White Water Safety and Rescue (grade 2/3 safety skills and confidence booster!) This is basically essential for all WW paddlers!
31st/1st Oct/Nov 4 Star Training (grade 2/3and leading skills)

BASE volunteering opportunity.

We are looking for a couple of volunteers to help out with BASE. If you haven't heard of this before it is where a group of students, predominantly canoe club members, help out for 1/1.5 hours a week to support blind adults in the use of the pool and gym at East Sands. For more information please email Claire at cm286. No experience with the blind is required, just the commitment to the time slot and good social skills. Get in touch!
