Weekly Email! - 20/02/13

posted 27 Feb 2013, 05:59 by Canoe St Andrews
Afternoon all, here's a shorter weekly email for you to have fun reading.

Dates for your Diary
Thursday 21st February - Pool Session
It's never too late to take up kayaking! Come along to our pool session on Thursday at St Leonard's pool at 8:45pm. We'll teach you the basics, and afterwards we all head to Rascals (about 10pm) where you can find out more about the club.

Saturday 2nd - Sunday 3rd March - 2 Day Intermediate Etive/West Coast Trip
Tired of St Andrews? Want to leave the bubble without having to deal with those barbarians at NSR in Nottingham? Need to get your kayaking fix without the associated risk of alcohol poisoning? Sounds like you need a trip to the west coast! We'll be paddling the beautiful, exciting and above all sewage free waters of the Etive on day one and we shall go where the water takes us on day 2. Drunken debauchery is optional but strictly encouraged. Email Jon H (jrh8) if keen.

East Neuk Outdoors Instructors
East Neuk Outdoors are looking for one or two seasonal instructors to help out at the outdoor activity centre in Cellardyke from April to September. Over the past 30 years they have usually employed at least one St Andrews University Canoe Club student and would like to maintain this connection. Crispin, the proprietor, can be in St Andrews to meet prospective instructors or arrange to meet them at the centre in Cellardyke. He is in St Andrews most Monday and Friday afternoons. If anyone would like to apply, send a CV to eastneukoutdoors@aol.com. Calum Fisher has worked at the centre and would be happy to answer any questions, or you can phone the centre on 01333 311929 to find out more.

Our charitable efforts
A big thank you to everyone who helped with the bakesale last week. Whether you manned the table, baked some cakes or just came and bought some of our tasty treats on offer, you all helped raise a fantastic amount of £81.44 which will go towards the highly worthy Glencoe Mountain Rescue charity. Also thank you to everyone who purchased and contributed to the naked calendar, which raised just under £200 for BASE.

House Crawl
After the success of the last house crawl Tim is currently trying to plan another. The key to the success is houses to stop at so if you want to offer your crib as a stop on the grand tour please contact Tim (trc3) and the whole club will be ever grateful.

A massive congratulations to everyone who went to BUCS Slalom this weekend. St Andrews came 3rd out of about 30 universities, which is definitely something to shout about. Kudos to Camille for organising.

As always, here's the cat picture of the week.
Jon's weekly escapade, Episode 4: Spent the weekend in awe at the club's solid performance at BUCS Slalom.

Of all the utensils we could use to eat rice, we chose two sticks...?
Love to you all
