Grandtully trip - Weds 9th
An afternoon trip will head off to the Tay on Wednesday - if you're keen to go practise your river skills then get in contact with Amy (ak632).
Don't forget that a first aid course is happening next weekend (12th/13th). Its useful for a whole bunch of further courses and is generally a good thing to have anyway... There are a few spaces left so get in contact with Craig (crb62) if you want to bag yours!
Grade 4 trip - 12th/13th March
A trip will be running next weekend, probably to Glen Spean on the west coast, leaving Saturday and getting back Sunday evening. If you want to come then email me (jd523).
Beginnery/Intermediatey trip 6th
A few spaces left on the Sunday trip, location TBDecided but a great trip. Sign up Patrick (pj58) or at the pub on Thursday.
Pub Crawl - Weds 2nd March
Following the success of last semester's big pub crawl we are going to have another next Wednesday, with the theme of 'Round the World', woop woop! It's time to get your Gap Yah on, and dress up representing a country, and drinking various national drinks in our fine drinking establishments, but no chundering everywah please! This is also the date of the next Sinners Sport in the union, so should be sure to end on a good note. Meet in the Rule at 8.30 and we'll go from there. Get keen!
And also for people to save the date for their diaries: Aquaball is on 23rd April at the Golf Hotel. More info to come later in the semester.
3 Star Open Boat Course - 12/13 March
Calling all open boating enthusiasts
- There are still one or two spaces left on this fun weekend trip that will strengthen your canoeing skills. The first day will be flat water skills and the second moving water. The course itself and the accommodation (log cabins with access to a drying room) will be heavily subsidised. The syllabus can be found here
, but you can also email James (jm2252) with questions.
Beginner Training Weekend - 26/27 March
This is perfect for beginners looking to push their skills and paddle some new and different rivers on the west coast
. This weekend was fun, exciting and extremely useful last year
, and will again be under the fabulous guidance of the legendary Chrissy D!
So don't hesitate to send your queries/questions/sign ups to jm2252 or catch James in pub!White Water Safety and Rescue (WWSR) Course - 9/10 April
This will be with Chrissy D and probably locally based, unless there is a serious drought. It is for anyone who has paddled grade 2/3 rivers (Stanley/Grandtully) and would like to learn boat rescues, bank safety etc. This is also needed before 4 star assessment or AWWSR. Email James (jm2252) to sign up.
Schools Outreach Project
A reminder that the club's been looking into doing an outreach project with local primary schools, possibly involving a presentation about river safety - Andrew's looking to put together a small group of people who'd be keen to get involved so we can develop it a bit further, and try to make it happen either late this semester or early in the next academic year. So, if you like working with kids and are interested in the publicity and outreach side of the club, drop Andrew (aa542) an email and we can get cracking in the next few weeks!
Sense Scotland charity
We've set up a JustGiving page for raising funds for this trip. We've supported the charity really well in previous years so lets get a good total this year!
That's all for this week - well done to all BUCS slalomers, who came 3rd in the country this weekend! All results can be found here
. StAUCC is on a serious winning streak now so roll on the weekend and the mighty NSR!
