Weekly Email! 10/09/13

posted 1 Jan 2014, 09:34 by Canoe St Andrews
IT'S WEEKLY EMAIL TIME AGAIN! I hope you've all had an absolutely wonderful summer and I can't wait to see you all again! This email has all our Freshers' Week events in so please come along and see all of us. If you signed up last year and never got involved, this week is a great time to get started! If you're already a pretty keen member, we really need your help so please email Sarah (sjm33) and tell her which events you can make. Thanks!
Please please please come along and help out throughout the week. The more people the better, especially at the give it a go sessions
Dates for your diary:
Give It A Go Sea Session: Wednesday 11th - 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
Kayaking sessions in the sea at East Sands slipway. Come along for a paddle where we can show you the ropes and have some fun!
Shuttles will be leaving from outside the Sports Centre at 1.50pm, 2.50pm and 3.50pm if you don’t fancy walking down.
Fingers crossed for good weather!
Give It A Go Sea Session: Friday 13th - 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
Another sea session for those who missed the first one and also for those who are already hooked and want to have another paddle on the sea!

Beach Bonfire: Friday 13th – 8pm
Come along and relax on the beach with canoe club from 8pm until late. Feel free to ask us any questions that you may have, or just come along and we can show you how much fun you can have as part of our club!

Sports Fayre: Saturday 14th – 11am to 5pm
We'll be at the Sports Fayre all day! Come along and enjoy the Canoe Club love! If you haven’t been able to make it to any of the give it a go sessions during the week then we’d be happy to speak to you about what the club’s like then too.
Sarah's weekly escapade: She started working at the union this week and is having a great time. She even made it to a party at the Castle last night after her shift ended at 2:30am but unfortunately most of you had gone home by then as you couldn't hack being up so late...
In other news...
A Message from the gear officers
At the beginning of the year we like to start with all the kit we had last year. I would love it if everyone would spend a couple of minutes checking their kit for anything of ours which might have got mixed in and if so return it asap, preferably at one of the two give it a go sessions this week. Thanks and see you all on the river!

BASE Volunteering
Want to keep fit and help others at the same time? Fancy swimming or gyming with an group of blind and visually impaired people from around Fife? It's an hour a week during term time with a few members of canoe club and is always great fun. Please contact Gina on gkw2 for more info!

Kit for the Freshers' Trip
This year the Freshers' Trip is going to be on the 28th and 29th of September and we are hoping that it's going to be as big as ever! Due to us not having enough kit to supply everyone on the trip, Sarah would find it extremely helpful if anyone with any kit of their own could email her (sjm33) and tell her what they have. Any spare kit that you might have and wouldn't mind lending would be extremely appreciated too. Would you also please be able to contact her if you have a spare sleeping bag or roll mat in case some people need to borrow them. Thanks!

A Message to all AU Drivers
If you've already passed your AU driving test and want to be able to drive for the club again this year, please go along to the Sports Centre as soon as possible with your driving license and paper counterpart so that they can photocopy them and re-register you. If you don't do this and bring both parts with you, you cannot drive for the club until you do so. Please try to do this ASAP!

Ready to Take the AU Driving Test?
The dates for the next AU driving tests are on the 19th, 20th and 26th September and the 4th October. If you're keen to become an AU driver, please email sjm33 with the dates that you'd be available to take it and make sure that you have both your driving license and paper counterpart at uni with you.
Gina's super keen - why aren't you!?
And finally, keep up to date with us by friending us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, and subscribing to us on YouTube. Our blog is a great way to see what we've been doing throughout last year too so please have a look. There'll be a preseason blog post added soon too!

I'm fairly sure that's all I have to tell you at the moment! Please email us if you have any questions and we can't wait to see you all very soon throughout the week!
I apologise for my lack of banter in this email. I'm a bit tired and would quite like to go to bed.
Lots and lots of canoe love,
Sarah xx

P.S. Emily and I officially hate the cate picture of the week so it's no longer being included. Here's an awesome video that Jon made a few weeks ago about what we get up to in the club to fill the space for now. If anyone had any great ideas, email in and, if I decide to choose someones, I'll buy them a drink.
