Morning everyone! Sorry for the extremely late weekly email - I had my last exam yesterday and then I've pretty much just slept since then. Hope you're all feeling Christmassy and happy now that the semester is over!
Dates for your diary:
BUCS Slalom - 15th/16th February One of the best competitions of the year. Based in Teeside, the slalom course provides a perfect opportunity for those of you wanting to try out slalom for the first time on grade 2 water. A man made course, not very long (1min30 run (very roughly)), lots of people alongside to do safety and to cheer you on. We stay in a travelodge, (Yes, thats a TRAVELODGE!) and have a very sophisticated weekend. Those of you keen, email jw200 to sign up or find out more.
In other news...IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS!
Improve your Kayaking!Attached to the weekly email is a form which you can fill out yourself to evaluate where you can improve your paddling! Sounds boring, but is actually really really good for thinking about your paddling and great for watching yourself improve! Email Andre (ap69) if you have any questions! Just to let you all know, its purely for yourself and no-one else has to see it unless you want them to!
Did you know that many parts of the Christmas tree can actually be eaten, with the needles being a good source of Vitamin C
The time is here to sign up for the Alps 2k14!
If you fancy a 2 week holiday to the beautiful south French Alps, with warm weather, cold beer, lake swimming and LOADS of paddling, sign up by emailing ak632. The dates are Saturday 28th June to Sunday 13th July leaving from and returning to St Andrews. Total cost £450. A decent river roll on grade 3 is highly recommended. You will not be confirmed as coming until you pay a deposit of £100. To do this please email jw200 for bank details. First person to pay will get a special hug from Jon Wyles. Any questions email Amy (ak632).
I've got a GoPro for Christmas. After a while thinking about a password, I remembered what Rory had put as his and decided to go along the same lines
Winter Photo Competition!
Grab your cameras and get shooting! Over the Christmas holidays, until January 31st, we will be holding a winter photo competition! Anythingcanoe/kayak/vaguely water related goes, and the best one will be picked as the Canoe Facebook cover photo for February! You can enter multiple photos. Submit your entries to Stratts (ejs21) before January 31st.
It's "ihaterory" ;)
And that's it for the year! You'll be getting your next email from me during the first week of next semester! If you feel deprived of canoe before then, Rory (rm82) is always keen for someone to talk to as he has no friends. Also, here's a Christmas pug!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Lots and lots of canoe love,
