Weekly Email! 24/10/13

posted 1 Jan 2014, 09:47 by Canoe St Andrews
Afternoon everyone! I hope everyone's hangovers from Sinners last night aren't too bad... Sorry for the lateness of this email but please give it a read and see what you want to get involved with!

Dates for your diary:
Winter and Christmas Naked Photo - TODAY, 7.15PM
Another naked photo shoot, it'll be inside in the warm, so if you haven't been to one yet come and join in the fun. Got one photo with snowflake modesty planned and another with Christmas props (please bring along any you have). Happening this Thursday (24th) 7.15pm at 85G Market Street (by costa), please bring Christmas props
Last time I checked, paper snowflakes have lots of holes in them. Gina's going to have a lot of photoshopping to do after this one...
Intermediate Trip - Sunday 27th October (This Sunday)
There are still a few spaces on our intermediate trip to the upper and lower tummel this weekend. Even if you haven't paddled much before you should still be able to come along and have a great time. Email Sarah (sjm33) if you're keen or want to find out more.
We'll also be doing two loch bags. Think of the points...
EGM and Pudding Party - Monday 28th September
Come along to Rascals Bar at 10pm on Monday (or after the pool session if you're going) for our wonderful EGM and pudding party. Here we'll be doing a few important things:
  1. Electing our Sub-Honours Rep - a position within our committee open to first or second years only (although it has to be your first year of paddling with the club). You will provide a link between first and second years and the committee to express any issues that they may have. You'll be involved in committee meetings and will also help out with the club in different ways e.g. organising trips. If you're interested, either just turn up on the night and nominate yourself, or chat to our current Sub-Honours Rep Sarah (sjm33) first to see what it's all about.
  2. Electing our second Social and Fundraising Convenor - we have had a resignation from one of our current committee members so will be electing someone else on the night! Please speak to Hugo (hmsf) if you have any more questions. This position can be held by ANYONE in the club!
  3. Most importantly, holding our pudding party. If you bring along a pudding (cakes, biscuits etc) then we'll eat them all after the EGM is over!
*AU Stripped* Raisin Themed Photo - Wednesday 30th October
Our calendar entry for the AU Stripped Calendar, will be taken 1.30 next Wednesday at the boatshed. We've got the month of November - the photo can either include unholy amounts of shaving foam or a Jon Rothwell style receipt. Lets show the other clubs how it's done. See you then!
Bring lactose-free pudding to the EGM and my voting choice will definitely be swayed...
Leaders Needed for Beginners' Trip - Saturday 2nd November
We have lots of keenness from beginners for either a short and sweet beginners trip or a sea paddle but need more of our lovely leaders. Don't worry about being hungover we'll be taking it easy. Email gkw2 to donate your body.

In other news...Why did GBBO have to finish as soon as I start watching it :(
Pool Session Sign Ups- Monday and Tuesday
We officially have a pool (Madras College, Kilrymont Road - see on a map here) and it's great. Sessions are every Monday and Tuesday from 20:15 - 21:15. You'll probably get about 20 minutes in the pool each session. Please sign up to a session here15 people can come each day but, if times fill up and you really wanted to go, email this emailaccount to let us know and you'll be put at the top of the waiting list for the next week.

Canoe Polo
An action packed and fun alternative to water polo. It's in kayaks, it has to be more fun. There are division polo matches with other scottish canoe clubs throughout the year, and St Andrews has 1 Div 2 team and 2 Div 4 teams. Anyone who wa
nts to give it a go on the Div 4 team (beginners especially welcome) or who wants to find out more, email Jon (jw200). It's good fun, and don't be put off if you're not that confident yet, there are lots of beginners in Div 4!

What Courses do you want to see?
We currently run white water 4 star, 5 star, safety courses and coaching courses over the year. Anything you do that feels left out? Email Andre (ap69) and let him know! Want sea kayak or white water canoe courses? The club can help you with organising and if there's enough interest, possibly even run the course!
Did you know that Jägermeister was originally marketed as a cough medicine. Maybe I should try this out with my cough...
Alps 2k14
You may have started to hear the phrase Alps 2k14 uttered in hushed voices in dark alleyways or in the corner of Rascals. The rumours are true. Alps 2k14 is being conceived. To go on this trip at the end of June you should be pretty confident on grade 3 and have run some grade 4s, and also have a pretty good roll. The cost should not be more than £450. If less, you will be reimbursed. We will be asking for a £100 deposit for anyone keen in a few weeks time, but for now we are asking anyone who has a car that they would be able to bring to the Alps to get in contact with Jon (jw200), so him and Amy can work out how many spaces are available.

Houses Needed for Next Thursday's House Crawl
We're having a halloween house crawl next Thursday and need people to offer up their houses for the night. If you'd be willing, please reply to this email and let us know. Thanks in advance!

Attention AU Drivers!
Firstly, a congratulations to our newest club drivers for passing their AU tests, and secondly, a bit of reading for you all. I've attached the AU driving instructions to this email and would ask that all drivers, even those of you who have previously driven for the club, give it a read before you next pick up or drive any rented vehicles with us. Any questions email ejs21!
Sarah's weekly escapade: She went on a WWSR course this weekend and during throw bagging, threw the rope, missed, and then fell in herself. Whoops...
I know how much you all absolutely loved the pug pictures I sent out a couple of weeks ago, so here are some more of them looking adorable in halloween costumes! Also, here's another link for all you losers who don't like pugs.

And finally, keep up to date with us by friending us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, and subscribing to us on YouTube. Our blog is great - give it a read!

Lots and lots of Canoe Love,
Sarah xx
